A collecter's edition of the poetical works of Alexander Pope, including his celebrated translation of Homer, presented in a single volume.
This early 19th-century edition brings together Pope’s major works, reflecting his influence as one of the defining voices of 18th-century English literature. His translation of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey was widely regarded for its poetic interpretation and played a significant role in shaping classical reception in the English-speaking world.
The volume carries the character of an early 19th-century printing, with period typography and binding consistent with editions of this era, offering both literary significance and decorative appeal.
The volume also retains an ex libris bookplate of Clarence Morris, adding a layer of personal provenance.
Origin: Philadelphia, 1830.
Material: Leather binding with paper pages, marbled endpapers.
Condition: Wear to leather including rubbing, edge wear, and patina. Interior pages show toning and foxing consistent with age.
