Napoleon III Wooden Jardinière

Sale price$395.00

An antique wooden jardinière featuring richly patterned parquetry veneer and ornate gilt metal mounts, designed in the neoclassical taste. The oval planter is framed with decorative ormolu mounts including figural legs, pierced gallery trim, and a central classical medallion detail.

The front panel is decorated with a neoclassical cameo-style ornament surrounded by small round mounts and inlaid wood veneer, creating a striking architectural composition. The elegant legs feature sculptural classical faces and flowing forms, adding movement and visual interest to the piece.

Originally designed as a decorative indoor planter, jardinières like this were popular in late 19th and early 20th century European interiors, where they were used to display ferns, palms, or floral arrangements in parlors and conservatories.

Further Condition notes: This example shows notable age and wear including veneer loss, separation at the base, and general surface wear throughout. While structurally stable enough for display, it would benefit from restoration. Because of this, the piece is priced accordingly and presents a wonderful opportunity for collectors or restorers to acquire a distinctive example at a more accessible price.

Despite its condition, the piece retains beautiful decorative character and remains an eye-catching accent for a layered interior.
