The Blue Boy is one of the most famous portraits by English painter Thomas Gainsborough, created around 1770. The painting depicts a young boy dressed in an elaborate blue satin outfit with intricate details and a lace collar, standing confidently against a moody, dark landscape. The model is thought to be Jonathan Buttall, the son of a wealthy merchant. Gainsborough's use of rich blues and masterful brushwork in the portrait was a nod to the style of Flemish painter Anthony van Dyck, whom Gainsborough admired. The Blue Boy is celebrated for its elegance, vivid color, and technical brilliance, making it an enduring icon of 18th-century portraiture.

In overall good antique condition with signs of age on metal and kickback. Kickback is a little loose; hanging is recommended.
