19th c. Steel Engraving of Lichfield Cathedral, South West View

Sale price$125.00

A finely detailed 19th-century steel engraving depicting Lichfield Cathedral from the south west. Drawn by R. Garland and engraved by B. Winkles for the renowned publication Winkles’s Cathedrals of England and Wales.

The composition captures the cathedral’s distinctive triple spires rising above a pastoral foreground of trees and water, rendered with precise architectural linework and delicate tonal shading. Subtle hand-applied color enhances the landscape, adding warmth and depth while preserving the crispness of the engraved detail.

Steel engravings of this period were prized for their ability to achieve exceptionally fine lines and clarity, resulting in a level of detail that remains striking even under close inspection.

Presented in a black and gilt frame that complements the richness of the engraving and its softly aged paper. A classic architectural subject with strong presence—equally suited for a study, library, or layered gallery wall.

Material: Steel engraving on paper with later hand coloring.
Dimensions: Approx. 8.5" W x 6.5" H.
