19th c. English Brass Footman

Sale price$525.00

A finely cast English brass footman dating to the 19th century, featuring elegant cabriole legs, decorative finials, and a pierced apron with Gothic-inspired foliate detailing.

Originally used as hearth furniture to support kettles or trays near the fire, footmen like this were both functional and ornamental. Today, they are prized for their sculptural quality and rich surface patina, making them striking decorative objects even outside their original use.

This example displays particularly pleasing proportions and depth of casting, with hand-finished details that reflect the craftsmanship of the Georgian-Victorian period. The warm, time-softened brass surface adds character while retaining a strong architectural presence.

Equally at home styled beside a fireplace, beneath a console, or as a standalone accent, this footman brings an unmistakable sense of English country-house character.

Origin: England, early-mid 19th century.
Material: Solid cast brass.
Dimensions: Approx. 20" x 16.5" x 13".
Condition: Age-appropriate surface wear, patina, and light spotting consistent with age; structurally sound and stable.
