19th c. Brass Missal Stand with Jeweled Cabochons

Sale price$500.00

An ornate antique brass book stand, richly cast with scrolling foliate borders and raised decorative panels, accented with jewel-toned glass cabochons in ruby, emerald, sapphire, amethyst, and citrine hues. The hinged slanted surface is designed to support a Bible or large book, with an engraved cross motif at center, lending both visual weight and symbolic presence.

The pierced gallery sides and claw-form feet give the stand a strong architectural silhouette, while the warm brass patina speaks to age and use. Decorative cabochon-set book stands of this quality were often associated with late 19th- to early 20th-century ecclesiastical or revivalist interiors, and today are equally compelling styled as a display stand for books, artwork, or devotional objects.

Origin: European, late 19th century.
Material: Cast brass with inset colored glass cabochons.
Dimensions: 14" x 17" x 12.5".
Condition: Age-appropriate surface wear and patina; light surface marks consistent with use; glass cabochons intact; structure stable and functional
