18th c. Velvet Wall Hanging with Heraldic Crest
An extraordinary 18th-century silk velvet panel featuring a meticulously hand-embroidered heraldic crest at its center. The rust-toned velvet has aged into a richly variegated patina, while the crest depicts a crowned coat of arms framed by an ermine-trimmed mantle.
Likely once part of a noble interior or ceremonial setting, this panel exudes regal gravitas and textile craftsmanship of the highest order. Trimmed in jacquard-woven borders, it’s ideal for framing, wall mounting, or incorporating into a maximalist design scheme steeped in historic character. Origin believed to be Italian.
Condition is good, although fragile due to age of fabric and velvet; some light staining is present on backing. Some light tears on front panel. Backing is lined. Velvet is shedding.
Dimensions: 44.5" x 47"
