18th c. Scottish Engraving — Cross Church, Peebles

Sale price$85.00 Regular price$165.00

A finely detailed late-18th-century engraving depicting Cross Church, Peebles, a historic ecclesiastical site set against the rolling hills of the Scottish Borders. The composition balances architectural precision with a pastoral landscape, capturing the quiet permanence of the stone tower and surrounding countryside at the close of the 18th century.

Published December 6, 1790, by J. Hooper, as noted in the plate margin. This view belongs to a broader tradition of British topographical engravings documenting historic churches, ruins, and landmarks during a period of growing antiquarian interest. Elegantly restrained and rich in texture, it works beautifully layered into traditional, English country, or collected interiors. Presented in a classic dark frame with a wide mat, ready to hang.

Origin: England or Scotland, published December 6, 1790.
Material: Copperplate engraving on laid paper; later vintage frame.
Dimensions: Approx. 10.75" x 12".
Condition: Light toning and scattered age spotting consistent with age; overall very good antique condition.
