"Philosophers and Actresses... of the Eighteenth Century" (1852-1853) by Arsene Houssaye
A beautifully bound and marbled four-volume set by French writer Arsène Houssaye, comprising Philosophers and Actresses and Men and Women of the Eighteenth Century, each complete in two volumes.

Houssaye focuses not only on major intellectual and political figures, but also on actresses and society figures, offering a more nuanced and human view of the Enlightenment era.
