A handsome 19th-century English walnut folding book slide, featuring a beautifully figured walnut frame with rounded, shaped ends and elaborate pierced brass mounts. The brass plaques are decorated with a symmetrical foliate and scrolling design, secured with decorative brass studs and lending the piece a wonderful combination of warmth and ornament.
Designed to expand and contract to accommodate a collection of books, the book slide is as functional as it is decorative. The richly colored walnut has developed a beautiful warm patina over time, while the aged brass has acquired a mellow, naturally oxidized surface. A particularly lovely piece for displaying books on a desk, library table, or open shelf.
