A decorative silver-plated tomato server by Wallace, with a broad, shaped serving blade pierced in an intricate arrangement of scrolling leaves and curved openings. A line of engraved floral motifs runs through the center, adding another layer of detail to the openwork design. The slender handle provides a restrained contrast, with long recessed lines terminating in an angular, faceted tip.

Originally intended for serving sliced tomatoes, its flat surface also lends itself to cucumber slices and other delicate accompaniments on an entertaining table. The pierced decoration makes it particularly lovely displayed beside a platter, where its ornament remains visible between servings. Pair it with collected silver, patterned china or a simple white serving dish for a useful detail with plenty of decorative character.

Origin: Wallace, America; 20th century.
Material: Silver-plated metal.
Dimensions: 10" L
Condition: Good vintage condition.
