Quantity: Pair of 2
A charming pair of early Victorian English transferware berry bowls by William Adams & Sons, decorated in the romantic “Columbia” pattern.
Each bowl features a picturesque architectural landscape surrounded by an elaborate border of scrolling foliage, floral sprays, and ornamental cartouches. The softly printed light blue transfer gives the pair a particularly delicate, atmospheric quality, characteristic of Staffordshire wares produced during the first half of the 19th century.
The “Columbia” pattern was produced by several Staffordshire manufacturers, with Adams & Sons examples dating to the mid-19th century. This pale blue version is especially pretty for its open white ground and finely detailed border.
A lovely pair for serving berries, fruit, or desserts, or for incorporating into an antique tablescape alongside other pieces of blue and white transferware. They also make beautiful decorative pieces when layered with larger plates or displayed on open shelving.
