A beautiful antique English transferware plate decorated in the Sicilian Flowers pattern, identified by the original script pattern mark on the reverse.
Printed in a rich cranberry-red against a creamy white ground, the design is composed of loosely arranged bouquets, flowering branches and delicate scattered sprigs. Larger floral arrangements sweep around the perimeter while a smaller bouquet occupies the center, leaving generous areas of open ground that give the decoration a particularly light, graceful quality.
A fine ornamental border follows the deeply scalloped rim, emphasizing the molded shape of the plate. The varying density of the engraved transfer creates wonderful tonal depth, from the darkest foliage to the softer passages within the blossoms.
Especially lovely for display, whether hung within a collected plate wall, propped in a plate rack or hutch, or layered with other red transferware and English ceramics.
Origin: England, likely Staffordshire, mid-19th century
Material: Glazed earthenware with red transfer-printed decoration
Dimensions: 9" Diameter
Condition: Antique condition with overall crazing and light wear consistent with age and use. Please review all photographs as part of the condition description.
