High end silver-plated covered serving dishes retailed by Shreve, Crump & Low, the distinguished Boston house associated with fine jewelry, silver, and luxury tableware. Each rounded vessel holds a removable Pyrex glass insert and is fitted with paired open handles, their grips accented with radiating detail. Stepped dome covers rise to sculptural turned finials, lending the set a handsome architectural profile and the polished presence of formal dining silver.
Boston's legendary luxury purveyor, Shreve, Crump & Low, is the oldest jeweler in North America. Like other premier historic houses (such as Tiffany & Co.), they frequently commissioned high-end silversmith workshops to manufacture luxury hostess hollowware under the exclusive Shreve retail stamp.
The combination of practical glass liners and decorative silver-plated surrounds brings an elegant presentation to vegetables, accompaniments, and entrées. Arranged along a buffet or brought to the dining table, the repeating covered forms create a cohesive setting while allowing room for patterned china, antique flatware, and more individual collected pieces. A substantial entertaining set from a retailer whose name has long belonged among fine furnishings for the table. Includes four serving dishes, each with its cover and Pyrex insert.
