Victorian Carved Furniture Leg Candleholders

A substantial pair of 19th-century English carved wood furniture legs, salvaged from a larger table or architectural-scale furnishing. Their elongated form is richly carved with scrolling foliate motifs and acanthus-like decoration, details commonly found on English Victorian furniture and revival pieces of the later 19th century. Comparable English tables from the period frequently use deeply carved floral, scroll, and acanthus ornament on substantial supports.

Now turned upside down, the broad original mounting ends create natural platforms for pillar candles, while the central bore can also accommodate taper candles. The oversized scale makes them especially sculptural, with dark worn surfaces, exposed wood, and softened carving giving each piece the presence of an architectural fragment rather than a simple furniture component. I love these as a pair on a mantel, console, or dining table.
