A French silver-plated champagne bucket by Saint-Hilaire, a silverware house later incorporated into the prestigious firm Ercuis. Its gently flared body rests on a spreading circular foot, with sculptural lion-mask mounts holding twisted ring handles. A rope-twist edge crowns the rim above a band of repeated upright ornament, echoed around the base. The classical detailing gives the bucket a commanding presence while leaving the broad, reflective body otherwise unadorned.
Saint-Hilaire operated as an elite, high-end subsidiary workshop of the world-famous French silversmith titan Ercuis. Active predominantly during the mid-to-late 20th century, the house was celebrated for producing heavy, top-tier hotel-grade silver plate for elite European dining rooms, luxury ocean liners, and private estates.
