Porcelain Painting of Christ with the Crown of Thorns

The composition follows the long European tradition of painting religious subjects onto porcelain plaques, which became particularly popular during the 19th century. Images of Christ wearing the Crown of Thorns were especially common, with examples produced in Germany and elsewhere in Europe after celebrated Old Master paintings, including Guido Reni's famous Christ Crowned with Thorns.
