A pair of late 19th- to early 20th-century opera glasses by Negretti & Zambra of London, finished in richly iridescent purple mother-of-pearl with warm brass fittings. The shell shifts from deep plum and aubergine to smoky violet depending on the light, giving the pair a jewel-like quality that feels especially luxurious against the original purple-lined fitted case.
The eyepiece is marked “Negretti & Zambra,” while the case is stamped “Negretti & Zambra London” in gilt. Negretti & Zambra was one of Britain’s leading optical and scientific-instrument firms, founded in 1850, and produced opera glasses in a range of decorative finishes throughout the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
