A wonderfully unusual miniature steamer trunk featuring an intricate black-and-white checkerboard exterior with iridescent accents and aged brass hardware. Its compact proportions recreate the appearance of a full-sized traveling trunk, complete with reinforced corners, decorative latches, and a central locking mechanism.

The exterior is covered in a tightly arranged geometric pattern of alternating dark squares and shimmering, pearl-like panels, whose subtle pink and lavender reflections lend the surface a particularly decorative quality. Smaller checkerboard borders frame the design, while brass-toned corner protectors and riveted hardware reinforce its resemblance to antique travel luggage.

The central lock is identified as an Eagle Lock Co. mechanism from Terryville, Connecticut, a company historically associated with locks and hardware for trunks, luggage, and household furnishings.

Opening on a hinged lid, the trunk reveals a softly colored interior with a pale peach lining. Miniature trunks such as this evoke the elaborate traveling cases of the late Victorian and early 20th centuries, translating their functional details into a decorative scale suitable for personal keepsakes and small accessories.

An especially appealing piece for a dressing table, library shelf, or collection of antique boxes, with a graphic pattern that feels surprisingly contemporary alongside its traditional hardware.
