Mahogany Serpentine Dressing Mirror

An elegant English mahogany dressing mirror, dating to the mid-19th century, with a beautifully shaped serpentine platform and richly figured mahogany throughout. The rectangular mirror is held within a substantial molded frame and supported by shaped uprights with turned finials, rising from the serpentine base.

The platform features a graceful undulating front and rests on four turned bun feet, giving the piece an unusually sculptural silhouette. The warm, highly figured mahogany and restrained form make this a particularly charming example of 19th-century English small furniture.

A wonderful piece for bringing character to a bedroom, dressing area, or bath. Style atop a chest or console with perfume bottles, jewelry, books, or a small lamp, or allow the serpentine platform and figured mahogany to stand alone as a decorative focal point.

Condition: Good antique condition. The mahogany retains a beautiful warm patina with visible figuring throughout, along with scattered surface marks, scratches, and minor areas water ring marks. Minor separations and imperfections to the finish are present as expected of an antique piece, with a loss to the veneer in the back corner (pictured).
