A fine pair of antique French three-light wall sconces in the Louis XVI Revival taste, cast in doré gilt bronze with sweeping foliate arms, fluted candle cups, leaf-form drip pans, and elaborately pierced backplates. The tall symmetrical crest combines radiating palmette-like ornament, scrollwork, and acanthus detailing, giving the pair a distinctly architectural presence.
Each sconce holds three candles, with a projecting center light flanked by two outer arms. The warm gilt surface has softened beautifully with age, with darker patina settling into the recessed decoration and emphasizing the depth of the casting.
Decorative but still wonderfully balanced, these would be especially striking flanking a mirror, painting, doorway, or mantel.
Origin: France, late 19th to early 20th century, c. 1890–1910
Material: Doré gilt bronze
Dimensions: 11" H × 13" W × 12" D
Condition: Good antique condition with age-related patina, rubbing, oxidation, and areas of gilt wear throughout. One candle drip rim is missing. Arms sit at a slight slant.
