A beautiful mid-19th-century Staffordshire ironstone dessert plate in the “Abbey” pattern by Livesley, Powell & Co., featuring a romantic architectural landscape surrounded by an elaborate border of Gothic ruins, scrolling foliage, and floral cartouches.

The central scene depicts a picturesque Gothic abbey ruin, with figures gathered in the foreground, while the surrounding border incorporates additional architectural views and ornamental foliage. The softly printed blue transfer creates the wonderfully atmospheric quality characteristic of early Victorian transferware.

The plate is marked to the reverse “IRONSTONE / ABBEY / L.P. & Co.”, identifying the maker as Livesley, Powell & Co., a Staffordshire pottery operating from 1851 to 1866. Their “Abbey” pattern is documented in both blue and grey transferware and is known on a variety of table and serving forms.

A lovely example of early Victorian blue and white transferware, particularly appealing displayed alongside other antique ceramics or incorporated into an English country-style table setting.
