A beautiful late 19th-century English ironstone plate by W.H. Grindley & Co. of Tunstall, Staffordshire, decorated in a warm sepia-brown transfer pattern of scrolling florals, botanical motifs, and geometric borders. The central floral medallion is framed by an intricate band of alternating floral and foliate panels, finished with a classic Greek-key border along the rim.
The plate retains the distinctive ship-over-globe trademark of W.H. Grindley & Co., a mark used by the Staffordshire pottery from approximately 1880 through 1914.
Beautiful displayed on a plate rack, layered with other transferware, or propped on an open shelf among books, wood, and other collected objects. The warm brown pattern works especially well with antique brass and dark wood.
Maker: c. 1880–1910; W.H. Grindley & Co., Tunstall, Staffordshire, England.
Material: Earthenware.
Dimensions: 9" diameter.
Condition: Good antique condition with age-related crazing, surface wear, and minor imperfections consistent with age and use. Please see photographs for additional detail.
