Folk Art Wooden Game Board

A petite folk art chess or draughts board, handmade from contrasting woods arranged in a simple checkerboard pattern. The individually fitted squares showcase the natural variation and beautiful grain of the wood, surrounded by a straightforward mitered frame.

The simple, handmade construction gives this little board the character of a vernacular folk-art object, rather than a formally manufactured game set. Likely made for chess or draughts, it is equally appealing today as a decorative object for a library, study, or collected vignette.

A versatile little piece, with gallery wire on the reverse for hanging. Display it as folk art in a kitchen, pantry, or breakfast room, where the checkerboard pattern adds a touch of graphic interest among collected plates, baskets, and wooden objects.

Origin: 20th century.

Dimensions: 8" L x 8" W.
