A beautiful mid-19th century English red transferware covered sugar pot, featuring an intricate floral and lattice pattern in rich burgundy-red against a warm ivory ground.
The generously rounded body has an especially lovely silhouette, with scrolling molded handles at either side and a substantial foot decorated with raised floral details. The domed cover repeats the pattern and is finished with a sculptural finial, giving the piece a wonderfully decorative presence from every angle.
The pattern combines small botanical blossoms with geometric latticework, creating the kind of dense, romantic decoration characteristic of antique transferware.
A particularly beautiful statement candle vessel. The generous size and elaborate lid make this one feel more like a decorative centerpiece than a traditional candle jar. Once converted, the lid can remain part of the display, creating an especially pretty moment on a dining table, kitchen island, console, or mantel.
Origin: 19th century; Staffordshire, England
