An antique French three-tier wire fruit basket stand, beautifully constructed with graduated woven-wire baskets and a wonderfully sculptural silhouette. Finished in a soft, aged white paint, this traditional fil de fer piece brings the charm of a French country kitchen to the table.
Each of the three baskets features an open wirework construction with a repeating series of tall, arched loops forming a decorative scalloped rim. The baskets increase in size toward the base, creating an elegant tiered arrangement supported by a slender central stem and an openwork pedestal foot. The airy construction gives the piece an impressive presence without appearing visually heavy.
Known in France as fil de fer, meaning iron wire, this style of decorative and utilitarian metalwork has long been associated with French kitchens, markets, and household furnishings. Wire baskets and tiered stands were practical solutions for storing and displaying produce while allowing air to circulate. Their craftsmanship and distinctive forms have also made them particularly appealing to collectors of French country antiques.
A lovely centerpiece for a kitchen island, dining table, or sideboard, this stand offers three generous levels for displaying seasonal fruit, fresh produce, or decorative collections. Its aged painted finish and delicate wirework make it equally appealing filled or left empty as a sculptural antique.
