Edwardian Oak Pedestal Bowl, Monogrammed "G"

A wonderful turn-of-the-century English oak serving bowl, combining richly figured oak with a polished electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) rim and decorative shield cartouche. The rounded, coopered oak body rises from a substantial circular pedestal, while the silver-plated rim adds just the right amount of formality. The shield bears an elaborately engraved G monogram, adding a personalized touch.

Designed with the removable ceramic insert between the food and the oak, making it considerably more practical for serving while protecting the timber from moisture and staining. Finding one still with its original liner is increasingly desirable. The combination of dark, warm oak and bright silver plate would be especially lovely on a dining table, sideboard, or kitchen island, filled simply with fruit or left empty as part of a collection of English tableware.

Condition: Good antique condition with expected age-related wear. The oak has several open splits where the joined sections have separated slightly, consistent with age and movement in the wood; the original ceramic liner remains present and fits within the bowl. The liner has some age-related spotting and discoloration to the interior. The EPNS rim is secure and has scattered areas of wear to the plating.
