Digoin & Sarreguemines “Les Mois” Talking Plates

French assiettes parlantes, or “talking plates,” by Digoin & Sarreguemines, a celebrated name in French earthenware whose history began in Sarreguemines in 1790 and expanded to Digoin in the late 19th century. The manufacture became known for finely printed decorative plates combining detailed patterns, illustrations with captions, humor, and scenes of everyday life.

These “Les Mois” (months of the year) plates depict country life in black transfer, each captioned in French and framed by a raspberry-red border of floral medallions, scrolling foliage, and patterned bands. Gently scalloped rims complete the design, while fishing, fruit gathering, and other seasonal activities give each month its own character. Lovely displayed individually on a shelf or gathered into a collected plate wall.
