A beautiful antique Davenport “Amoy” flow blue serving dish, featuring a charming Chinoiserie scene of figures beneath a parasol, surrounded by flowering foliage and water. The design is rendered in rich cobalt blue, with the characteristic soft, diffused quality of flow blue that gives the pattern its wonderfully atmospheric appearance.

The “Amoy” pattern takes its name from Amoy (present-day Xiamen), China, a historic port associated with Western trade and the exchange of Chinese goods. Chinoiserie patterns such as this reflected the strong 19th-century fascination with East Asian art and decorative motifs.

This example is formed as a distinctive octagonal bowl, with clipped corners and a wide decorative border of scrolling foliage, florals, and geometric detailing. The deeper form adds dimension to the pattern and makes it especially useful for serving or displaying, while also pairing beautifully with other pieces in the Davenport “Amoy” pattern.
