A striking antique Davenport “Amoy” flow blue plate, featuring a richly saturated cobalt-blue Chinoiserie landscape with a pagoda-style pavilion, flowering plants, bridge, and water. The pattern is framed by a beautifully detailed border of alternating decorative panels, with the characteristic deep cobalt flow and soft, blurred edges that make early flow blue so atmospheric.

The “Amoy” pattern is Davenport’s interpretation of an East Asian-inspired landscape, named for Amoy (now Xiamen), a major Chinese port that was an important center of trade with the West during the 19th century. Davenport produced the pattern in a variety of table and tea wares, making pieces like this particularly lovely for building a collected antique table setting.

This example has a wonderful octagonal/stepped form, with the molded border emphasizing the unusual shape. The transfer is especially heavily flowed, with areas of intense cobalt bleeding into the white ground and creating a beautifully painterly effect. The underside is impressed/marked “AMOY.”
