Quantity: Pair of 2. Three pairs available.
A charming pair of antique Davenport “Amoy” flow blue tea bowls, featuring richly blurred cobalt-blue transfer on a white earthenware ground. The bowls have an elegant fluted, footed form with a dramatically flared rim, making them especially pretty pieces for an antique tea collection.
The “Amoy” pattern is a Chinoiserie-inspired landscape with Eastern-style architecture, figures, foliage, and other decorative elements. Davenport, one of Staffordshire’s important ceramic manufacturers, produced Amoy in a variety of table and tea wares during the 19th century. The characteristic bleeding of the cobalt transfer into the surrounding glaze gives these pieces their beautifully atmospheric flow blue appearance.
These are tea bowls rather than handled teacups, reflecting an earlier style of tea service. The variation in the intensity and movement of the blue transfer is particularly lovely on these examples.
