A beautiful antique Davenport “Amoy” flow blue creamer, featuring the distinctive Chinoiserie landscape of figures, flowering foliage, water, and East Asian-inspired architecture. The rich cobalt blue transfer has the soft, atmospheric quality characteristic of flow blue, with beautifully varied areas of color and diffusion.
The “Amoy” pattern takes its name from Amoy (present-day Xiamen), China, a historic trading port whose name became associated with the 19th-century Western fascination with Chinese art, textiles, and decorative motifs. Davenport’s interpretation pairs this Chinoiserie imagery with an ornate floral and scrolling border, creating a particularly decorative example of early Victorian transferware.
A lovely piece for serving cream at the table, or simply displaying as part of a collection of antique blue and white ceramics.
