A beautiful antique Davenport “Amoy” flow blue shallow bowl, featuring the charming Chinoiserie scene associated with the “Amoy” pattern, depicting figures beneath a parasol surrounded by flowering foliage, water, and East Asian-inspired architecture.
Rendered in rich cobalt blue, the design has the characteristic soft, diffused quality of flow blue, giving the landscape an atmospheric, almost watercolor-like appearance. The shallow form sits between a plate and a traditional bowl, making it especially versatile for serving, display, or layering with other antique transferware.
The “Amoy” pattern takes its name from Amoy (present-day Xiamen), China, a historic trading port whose name became associated with the 19th-century Western fascination with Chinese art and decorative motifs.
