c. 1913 Sir Walter Scott Poetical Works

An early 20th-century Oxford edition of The Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott, published in 1913 by Humphrey Milford for Oxford University Press and edited by J. Logie Robertson. The volume brings together Scott’s poetry with the author’s own introductions and notes in a substantial single-volume edition.

Bound in richly mottled brown calf, the book has raised spine bands, gilt floral tooling, a red leather title label, and a large gilt Schola Ruthinensis crest to the front board. The school-prize binding gives it a wonderfully collegiate, old-library character, while the warm leather and ornate spine make it especially decorative on a shelf or stacked among antique books and collected objects.
