A lovely set of four antique English porcelain coffee cans attributed to New Hall, Staffordshire, dating to the late Georgian/early Regency period, circa 1795–1815.
Each cylindrical white porcelain coffee can is decorated with delicate black hand-painted floral and foliate sprigs, with a simple black-lined rim and distinctive loop handles. The varied floral arrangements give the set a wonderfully informal, hand-decorated character typical of early English porcelain.
The coffee can was a particularly popular form in Georgian England, intended for serving coffee and generally smaller and taller than a conventional teacup. New Hall produced numerous patterns of coffee cans during this period, many of them unmarked, making attribution dependent on the form, porcelain body, decoration, and handle.
Origin: c. 1795–1815; Staffordshire, England.
Maker: New Hall Porcelain Factory.
