A wonderful antique kitchen pairing consisting of a heavily figured burlwood chopping block and an herb chopper, each retaining the marks of decades of practical use. The substantial chopping block is beautifully irregular, with highly patterned burl grain throughout and a warm, richly patinated surface. Raised on four small cork feet, the block has extensive wear, cuts, and surface character that speak to its original working life.
The accompanying herb chopper features a beautifully turned wooden handle and broad iron blade, with a wonderfully timeworn surface and naturally aged patina. Together, the pieces make an especially charming display for a country kitchen, collected kitchen shelf, or open cabinet, and the chopping block would also be lovely styled beneath a bowl, crock, or collection of antique kitchen objects.
Origin: Late 19th to early 20th century; England.
Material: Burlwood, mahogany (handle), and iron.
Dimensions: 9.5" L x 5.75" W x 3" H; 9" L x 7" W.
Condition: Good antique condition with extensive age-related wear consistent with use, including knife marks, surface scratches, cracks, irregularities, and areas of loss to the chopping block. The iron blade has an aged, naturally patinated surface. Please see photographs for additional detail.
