Assorted Jelly Spoons

A charming assortment of silver-plated jelly servers, each from a different American flatware pattern and era. These petite serving spoons were made specifically for bringing jams, jellies, preserves, and other soft condiments from the serving dish to the individual plate.

The tradition of dedicated jelly servers reflects an era when nearly every course and condiment could have its own serving utensil. Their small scale and broad, shallow bowls made them particularly well suited to preserves, while their decorative handles allowed them to coordinate with the larger flatware service.

This collection includes three distinctive patterns, spanning the 1930s:

Danish Princess by Holmes & Edwards, c. 1938 — Holmes & Edwards was an important American silver manufacturer, and “Danish Princess” reflects the streamlined yet decorative character of American flatware design in the late 1930s. The pattern was produced in a wide range of specialized serving pieces, including a dedicated jelly server measuring approximately 6 3/8 inches.

King Cedric by Community Plate, c. 1933 — “King Cedric” was introduced during the Art Deco period, but its elaborate handle decoration has a distinctly traditional quality, making it an especially pretty bridge between formal antique tableware and 1930s American design. Contemporary advertising from 1933 specifically lists Community Plate’s King Cedric among the company’s available tableware.

Radiance by Crown Silverplate, c. 1939 — “Radiance” was part of the late-1930s American silverplate tradition, combining decorative floral motifs with the more streamlined proportions of the period. The pattern was produced by Crown Silverplate and is catalogued as a 1939 pattern, with a broad range of specialized serving pieces—including sugar spoons, berry spoons, gravy ladles, and other serving utensils.

Each makes a lovely addition to a breakfast or tea table, particularly paired with an antique preserve jar, silver butter dish, toast rack, or other small serving pieces. They are also wonderful collected together, where the differences in handle design make the individual patterns especially easy to appreciate.
