Striking antique bouquet holder in the form of an elongated cornucopia, combining a tall fluted glass trumpet with an elaborate gilt-metal frame and integral pedestal. The scrolling, organic metalwork, stylized foliage, and sweeping curves are characteristic of the Art Nouveau period, while the cornucopia form recalls the earlier Victorian tradition of the porte-bouquet or posy holder.
Decorative bouquet holders became fashionable in Europe during the 19th century, allowing small bouquets or nosegays to be carried while keeping their stems in water; by the late Victorian era, larger examples could also serve as elegant tabletop or mantel ornaments.
Origin: Late 19th century - early 20h century.
Material: Fluted glass, gilt metal
