Aphrodite Torso Sculpture on Plinth, MMA

Sale price$525.00

A sculptural torso after Aphrodite, produced as a museum reproduction for The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1993

Modeled after the celebrated Roman copy of a Greek original from the 4th century B.C., widely known as the Aphrodite of Knidos. This work reflects the classical ideal of proportion and restrained movement that made the original sculpture one of the most influential representations of the female form in antiquity.

The figure captures the poised contrapposto stance and quiet intimacy associated with the Knidian type, a composition that marked a turning point in classical sculpture. Executed in marble dust composite, the surface retains a soft, stone-like matte finish that closely recalls carved marble, lending the piece visual weight and presence. At over eighteen inches tall, it reads as a substantial, display-worthy sculpture rather than a decorative accent.

Origin: The Metropolitan Museum of Art replica, 1993.
Material: Cast marble dust composite.
Dimensions: Approx. 18 1/8" H × 5 3/4" W.
Condition: Very good condition; light surface marks consistent with display, no chips or repairs observed.
