19th c. Engraving of General Gneisenau

Sale price$98.00 Regular price$150.00

A finely detailed 19th-century engraved portrait of August Wilhelm Antonius Graf Neidhardt von Gneisenau, Prussian military reformer and one of the key figures of the Napoleonic era. Depicted in formal uniform with medals and orders, the engraving reflects the period’s precision and reverence for military leadership, rendered through delicate line work and balanced composition.

The plate is credited Krieger del. (after the original drawing) and Falcke sc. (engraver), following standard 19th-century European print conventions. The engraving originates from a larger historical publication, likely produced in the early-to-mid 1800s, during a time when engraved portraiture served both educational and commemorative purposes.

This piece has been custom framed with hand-marbled, hand-painted paper matting, chosen to echo traditional European bookbinding papers of the 18th and 19th centuries. The marbling adds depth and movement while grounding the engraving in its historical context. Finished in a classic, contemporary wooden frame that complements the age and character of the print without overpowering it.

An elegant and scholarly work, well suited to a library, study, or gallery wall, and particularly compelling when layered among books, antiques, and collected objects.
