19th c. Buttocks Basket
Beautifully hand-woven and rich with patina, this c. 1880 buttocks basket is a striking example of 19th-century craftsmanship. Named for its distinct rounded, double-lobed shape, this form was traditionally used for gathering eggs, produce, and small farm goods. The sturdy bentwood handle and intricate ribbed weave speak to its utilitarian roots, while its sculptural silhouette makes it a decorative standout in today’s interiors.
Display it on a console or hang it from a wall hook in a mudroom or pantry for a touch of rustic charm. Whether styled with dried florals, used as a catch-all, or admired purely for its form, this heirloom piece offers both history and warmth to any space.
In good antique condition with some disclaimers and holes on weave throughout. Please see all photos for full condition.
Dimensions: 18" x 14" x 14"
