18th c. Engraving Landscape of Lichfield, “Remarkably Large Willow Tree”

Sale price$165.00

An 18th-century landscape engraving depicting a pastoral view near Lichfield, notably featuring a prominently rendered willow tree anchoring the foreground. The composition includes rolling countryside, architectural elements, and a quiet river scene, all brought together with delicate engraved line work and later hand-applied color.

Inscribed “F. Stringer del. 1785” with engraving attributed to T. Cook, placing the origin of the plate in the late 18th century. The title references the “remarkably large willow tree,” highlighting the tree as a focal point within the composition—a common feature in picturesque landscape engravings of the period.

The balance of open space, gentle movement, and fine detail gives the piece a calm, atmospheric quality that reads beautifully when styled within layered interiors. Presented in a black and gilt frame.

Material: Engraving on paper with hand coloring.
Dimensions: Approx. 11.5" W x 7.5" H.
