The elongated rectangular form was designed specifically for storing gloves, with the narrow proportions characteristic of French glove boxes produced during the Second Empire. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eOpening the box reveals its original cream tufted silk or satin interior, padded across both the lid and lower compartment. The original lock and key remain with the box. These decorative glove boxes were fashionable dressing-table accessories in 19th-century France, combining highly figured veneers with elaborate marquetry and finely finished interiors.
