Small-paned shopfront windows, a narrow arched entrance, and the uneven rooflines offer a fascinating record of the city's older commercial architecture. Above, a pale blue sky filled with loosely painted clouds brings lightness to the detailed architectural study.

Leadenhall Street, situated in the historic City of London, has been an important commercial thoroughfare for centuries. Views of its older buildings are especially appealing as records of the city's changing architectural landscape, preserving the appearance of shops and houses that have since been altered or lost.

Presented beneath a wide ivory-colored mount in a black-and-gold frame, this watercolor is a lovely addition to a collection of British architectural studies, London views, or traditional English interiors.

Origin: England, Early 19th century
Subject: Old Houses in Leadenhall Street, City of London
Medium: Watercolor and ink on paper
Inscription: “Old Houses in Leadenhall Street. 1805”
Dimensions: 11.25" W x 13.75" H
Condition: Framed condition with visible age-related toning and scattered spotting to the paper and mount.
